I was looking for something with a little more math help with step by step instructions. I have been out of high school for 25 years and trying to remember how to do algebra was difficult. This guide helped to let me know what was on the test, but trying to re-learn with only the book was not working. I found a couple of websites that were free. I should have saved my money.Update to initial review: I took my PERT, was surprised as to how hard it was. I did very well, but what was in the book and what was on the test were two completely different things. The reading part was more poetry and excerpts from Mark Twain and Robert Frost, which I found to be difficult reading.
After taking the test, the book did NOT help me at all. I received more help from the free online tutorials.

Absolute waste of money! You can find much better preparatory information online. Do not buy this book.

all the parts are good, and gives you basic stuff to study off of. But I would not use just this book. I would recommend COMPASS exam practice questions, and COMPASS exam secrets study guide with this book. The math portion has many mistakes, I know this because I have completed my college math already and needed to take the writing portion of the test only. In some parts of the math when explaining the decimals one problem didn't even place the decimal. another mistake was going over division. It said 6 divided by 32. when explaining the decimal placement it wrote out 32 divided by 6, not 6 divided by 32. two completely different problems, they are not the same. I do not like some other parts of the math when it breaks up the problem to explain. it can get complicated instead of keeping things simple and easy when breaking down problems.
I have also done tutoring in math at different levels.
i needed a refresh and this helped. easy to understand. could use more examples for each type of question though. it literally has like one example per type of question/scenario. needs more examples
