I am a fan of Kellerman. Two main characters, Alex and Milo, make the story but this book bothered me. Usually Alex and Milo can pick the bad guy quickly and then the story goes around bringing justice to all. However they went after a character right from the get go who I knew was not thebad guy. I, at times, would talk to the book being so upset at how Alex and Milo were soooo wrong. The end of the story was a disappointment too.
I knew that the plan to get the real bad guy was a disaster waiting to happen, and it was. Not one of his best.

Great pace unlike some of the other editions in the Delaware series the action was not slowed by over description or the annoying on and off romance of Alex and robin. Milo took center stage as he trained detective reed the ups and downs of a whodunit in l.a.. This is a well-written book I recommend it.
This is one of my top 5 authors and my favorite series of police procedurals. The characters are wonderful as always in a Kellerman novel. I am rereading his books in order on because I love better than paper books, quite a transition.
This specific case does seem more settled than some of the earlier cases. The passion in the writing remains strong. I hope he never stops writing.
The secret of these books is the character development. Everyone who enters Alex and Mill's stage is drawn with detail a d a somewhat reluctant compassion.
This book is fairly good but not one of my favorites. The earlier books are better. At least there was plenty Milo and not too much Robin. For me the mystery wasn't gripping.
Bones is a story about wealth, greed, sex and exploitation of the weak. The mystery begins with the discovery of a lovely wooden box purchased in a storage unit auction. The box contains tiny, polished bones. Dr. Delaware and Milo must solve the mystery of the bones and well as four more bodies found in a protected wetland reserve which are related to the box. As always, the search covers L.A., it's grittier areas contrasted with the exclusive neighborhoods of the rich and powerful. The brilliant team always solve the mystery, but in this case there was so much cruelty and collateral damage that the ending felt a little empty.
Full disclosure - I am a Kellerman/Delaware fan. This, like most of the books in the series, is a travelogue through the twisted mind of those with what most would call unnatural inclinations. That said, the story is well written with and typical cast of regular characters - principally the psychiatrist Alex Delaware the police Lieutenant Milo Sturges - work their way through a varied cast of characters on the way to the solution. As is the case with others in this series the jouney makes for an enjoyable read and comes hightly recommended.
Alex Delaware returns in another Jonathan Kellerman detective novel. At this point in the series, the books are essentially police procedurals. Earlier books in the series had Alex working, and sometimes receiving help from Milo Sturgis, a police detective who works on the West Side in LA. Now, Milo is the detective, of course, and every time he has a case that is a "mystery" he invites Alex along. As an aside, in a future book Alex tells you the chief of police tried to hire him full-time to run the department's psych unit, so perhaps that explains the access Alex has when he tails along after Milo.
In the current book, Milo has been handed an absolute disaster someone's discovered a group of dead bodies in a marsh to the west of the city, land that's been hopefully slated for development, and also for preservation as a wilderness preserve. A militant environmentalist watches over the site, along with a kid doing community service, and the kid is tipped that there are bodies in the marsh via a phone message. Later, the bodies of several women are discovered, all missing one hand, and all facing in the same direction.
Milo enlists the help of a young detective who works out of the same station house as he, and so we're introduced to the Reed brothers. Moe is younger, and Aaron is older, having left the department and set out on his own as a private eye; the trick is that though they share a mother, their fathers were different, and so Aaron is black, Moe white. This makes for some interesting interplay between the two characters, and it also leads to True Detectives, which features the two of them as main characters.
I liked this book, but not spectacularly. It's not Kellerman's worst book, it's not his best either. It'd be good on a beach somewhere, I would imagine.
